Natalie is an independent artist, choreographer, performer, teacher (Dance, yoga, mindfulness) and researcher working in somatic based body practices, sexology and gender politics.

In her artistic practice, She is busy with excavating the fissures between what is real and unreal and pushing into the spectacle of the theatre to create absurd, visceral performance experiences for audiences. Her practice sits at the nexus of dance, performance, live cinema and visual spectacle, exploiting familiar formulas to interrogate form and challenge perception.

Her research is centered around ways to organise and engage in decentralised, non-heirarchical decision making through improvisation, creating embodiment workshops for groups of people to engage in fast paced decision-making, discombobulation and generating (un)realities to test out new ideas. She has worked in offices, with non-dancers, bodybuilders, professional ballerinas, un-trained actors, sports stars, Marina Abramovic and her dad in these areas. Her frame of reference is supported by readings based in and around queerness, gender politics, destabilising and questioning the systems and structures that we are complicit with or operate within.

Natalie has spent her life learning, and then unlearning (and then learning and unlearning) tools and techniques for working collaboratively. She is obsessed with bodies and movement and acknowledges that there are always going to be multiple ways in which to receive and process information. She works with this, encouraging (in her work and through her collaborations) a multiplicity of ideas all at once (everything all the time) to see how things can collide and combine to re-imagine and fracture habitual and systemic learning.

Natalie’s vision is to dismantle understood frameworks, excavate them, and then reconfigure creatively, offering up alternative ways in which to see and move through the world. With an emphasis on togetherness, and making kin, she is constantly pushing the boundaries of form and exercising curiosity in how she engages with each and every project.
